Studio Policy

Studio Policy.

Before the first lesson, parents and students will sign a detailed studio policy acknowledging their understanding of and dedication to the music education program. Students who do not follow the Flute Studio policies will be asked to seek educational opportunities elsewhere.
  • Flute Studio students are expected to attend weekly lessons and practice daily. Lesson length and practice time depends upon level, age, and experience.
  • Students are expected to pay at the beginning of the month for a full month of teaching unless other arrangements are made.
  • Students or parents must notify the teacher by phone or email at least 24 hours prior to an absence. Exceptions are made for sudden illness. Students who cancel lessons are expected to make them up within a week unless the illness is extended. School event dates must be provided a week in advance if the student must miss a lesson due to event participation. Make-up lessons are to be arranged by students in accordance with the teaching schedule.
  • Students are required to own or have access to required instruments. If a student does not have an instrument and needs assistance finding one, Donna Olkowski can accompany them to a recommended shop (Flute World or Flute Specialists) to find an instrument that suits their needs.
  • Students are required to purchase books and materials and bring these required materials and instruments to each lesson. Assigned books may be purchased from Donna Olkowski at a discounted price, or they may be purchased online as long as this occurs in a timely manner.
  • Students should arrive for their lesson at least 5 minutes early.
  • Students should complete given assignments, some on book covers and some on study books.
  • Students are expected to practice daily for an hour as follows: long tones, scales, exercises, études, solos, ensemble pieces, and sight reading, in that order.
  • When attending lessons, please park in front of the house rather than the driveway, so the family can come and go.
  • If you need to contact the studio, please avoid calling from 3 to 9 p.m. while teaching is in session.
